A Dream Job may not turn out according to your Dreams.
So also the Best Candidate isn’t a reality. She’s always evolving with time and performance. Nobody can know in advance who will be the Best Candidate for the job.
Candidates look for their Dream Job. Equally, Companies look for the Best Candidate.
But the ideal is hardly ever the Reality of Life.
Many people remain unemployed, only because they are chasing that elusive Dream Job.
An important point to keep in mind as you start your job search is: You’re Not looking for the Best Company. Rather, you’re looking for the Company, which is the Best Fit for you.
No one can predict who will be the best candidate on the basis of a 45 minute interview.
The same Principle holds good from the Recruiter’s viewpoint. Every Recruiter and Hiring manager aims to select the Best Candidate.
You are more likely to find out, in hindsight over the next five years, as the candidate and her performance evolves over time
Besides, a person’s performance may vary from one day to another.
Think of a derby race. The same horse hardly ever wins repeatedly. The horse that wins on one day may not win on the next.
The fact is that the Best Candidate doesn’t exist. There’s no way to judge the best candidate at the interview.
Similarly, SAT scores are not error free. The top 10-15% could be very closely matched, given the competitive nature of the exam. Performance could vary from day to day, depending on other factors.
There’s a difference between Equality and Equity. Equality treats everyone the same way.
We don’t treat all our children the same way. We treat our children according to each child’s needs.
Hence the need for Diversity Equity and Inclusion without sacrificing quality.
Equity treats everyone differently in a meaningful way that makes sense.
The 5 year old gets a different treatment than the 10 year old. Else, the 10 year old will have an unfair advantage.
Looking for a Dream Job, what fulfils all your Wants to the Tee is as unrealistic as hoping to get the Best Candidate through a interview.
Life too is like a circular track. The inside lines get staggered. This may not be equal, but it’s equitable based on merit.
A 70/75% match is good enough to make it a Win:Win for both parties!!
