Building Emotional Intelligence as a Company Culture

(Sharing some perspectives from Daniel Goleman’s First Person Plural recent podcast).

Companies that truly seek a culture that values emotional intelligence will need to go further on this journey.

He suggests

three things that Organizations will need to do.

1. They’ll  need to make HOW you get your results as important as those results themselves in performance reviews.

This will mean a paradigm shift in the way annual appraisals  and performance  metrics are measured.

The EI metric will need to be factored in when deciding annual pay rises for individuals.

Leaders who exhibit the courage to ‘walk the talk’, leaders who themselves model their behaviors  on the principles of Emotional Intelligence.

2. Organisations will need high-visibility leaders  to champion EI in the Company.

Leaders who align themselves, their actions, their policies and values  to fostering an Emotionally lntelligent culture.

3. Most importantly they will need to offer everyone a way to boost their own EI skillset .

Training  and coaching to make behavioural changes in the way they interact and relate to each other

In today’s volatile & fast changing work place, will corporate leadership have the mindspace
to focus on these ‘soft’ aspects that make all the difference to the ‘hard’ results?
