Does Humour work at Work?(Thoughts triggered by article in yesterday’s ET)💥My best memories of over 4 decades at the workplace, are the humorous stories.💥This set me thinking whether Humour at the workplace is serious business.💥Especially ii today’s challenging times of uncertainty at work, pandemic & geopolitical conflicts, humour can lend a lighter touch.💥Shared laughter certainly builds trust, bonding and motivation.💥More engaged and motivated employees are more likely to perform better and be willing to take risks.💥A lot would depend on the leader.💥The article mentions that leaders with a sense of humour are seen as 27% more motivating, and their teams twice as likely to be creative.💥Humour displays Humanity and sometimes Humility (a tad of selfdeprecation)💥A study by Gallups had shown that employees are less likely to leave a job, where they experience trusting relationships.💥Of course, a thumb rule is to ask: How will this make others feel?💥The goal being, not to display one’s own witticism, but to put others at ease.💥Do you think the time is ripe for leaders to leverage this asset – cultivate and encourage humour, of the right kind?✅Please share your views in the comments and vote on the below poll#work #job #leaders #hr
