When does the Interview End?

When does the interview end?

Most people think the interview ends when you walk out of the room.

Nothing could be further than the truth.

Often your engagement with the Company has just become.

Several steps you need to take after the interview.

1. A Thank You note to thank them for their time, immediately after the interview or at least within 24 hours.

Make sure you’ve got the email id of the HR contact.

2. A first reminder after a week or so clearly stating the date of   interview and position.

3. A second reminder after about 20 days. Ensure it’s polite and courteous, and shorter than the first.

4. A third reminder very very brief about 5/6 weeks.

5. If there’s no reply, just thank them anyway & keep door open for future interaction.

What to do if the reply is a Rejection?

Rejection is hard to take & most people want to put it behind them & move on.

That may not be right strategy in case of job search.

No one can guess the reason for rejection.

Rejection may well be the start of a larger conversation.

It’s not uncommon that a company that initially rejected you for a position gets in touch for the same or better position.

I have witnessed this several times in my career.

It could be as, simple as the selected candidate not accepting the job.

Build rapport with the interviewer so that you can keep up the flow of engagement.

Expand your  network by following the interviewer and others in the organization on LinkedIn.

Engage with Company posts.

Ensure that you show your ongoing interest in your final thank you mail and keep the door open.

You could reach out to one of the interviewers, saying you were glad to meet and would like to run things by them as your search progresses.

Ensure that you are discreet, polite and genuine in this outreach.

And of cours, the Company itself should be the right company for you.

Bottom line No is never Personal.
Nor is it final..

Would love you hear your differing perspectives on the above, especially in today’s hustle environment and all the talk on ghosting on social media
