Employees need a PURPOSE to Return to Office

Employees need a WHY to return to office!

A daily commute was once the norm. But sustained productivity during the pandemic has changed things.

This has left many employees asking: WHY return to office?

Employees now look for a more meaningful & fruitful work day with better social interaction.

More employee connection, social capital & collaboration time with co-workers.

The fact that their ‘work friends’ & direct team members are there at the same time is a great incentive.

This is more true for Gen Z and millennials.

After, over two years of the pandemic, connections at work & even outside have dropped dramatically.

Return to office may be seen as a way to recapture some of what has been lost.

Often, people return to office to find themselves spending whole day on video calls, answering emails etc., & are left wondering WHY they are there in the first place. #work

Heidi Brooks a Senior Lecturer at Yale says we don’t just work for transactional reasons.
We also work for a sense of belonging. And social connection enlivens this sense of belonging.

– Companies could tweak the office design for better human interaction.

– Be more intentional about creating opportunities for employees to interact – offsite retreat, team lunches, 1on1 coffee chats.

– More open communication, phone check-ins, in person meetings & conversations.

– Seeking feedback from employees on what works.
