Work Life Balance for the Job Seeker!
Finding work is hard work – in today’s overcrowded market plagued by mass layoffs and subdued sentiment.
This is especially so for Gen Z ers with a degree, but lack of clarity of how & where to start.
According to Government estimates almost half of India’s workforce is below 25 years.
According to LinkedIn Workforce Report 37% of recent new hires were Gen Z ers, up from 7% in 2018.
It’s frequently said that finding a job is a Full Time Job, especially for those who are currently unemployed.
There are myriad activities to be organised. Unless done in a structured and targeted fashion, it can lead to burnout and anxiety.
Having a written down Plan allocating specific time for each activity helps.
It’s not just the amount of time spent but how efficiently it’s done, which is key.
Breaking down the following activities, prioritising them & sticking to the Plan is a game changer:
Some activities one would need to focus on:
➡️ Taking some time off, if one has recently been laid off.
➡️ Revisiting one’s marketing assets like Resume and Cover letter to target the roles being applied for.
➡️Researching the Company, industry and job role in detail.
➡️Studying the In-Demand Skills and matching your own skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours to those of the role
➡️Upskilling to fill any gaps
➡️On-line and in person Networking
➡️Family time, exercise, self care activities like mindfulness practices don’t stop for a job search
The amount of time allocated weekly for these activities will depend entirely on the circumstances.
Freshers and mid career workers will probably need more time than Senior Level hires who may take the networking route.
Older employees may need more time to dig into their transferable skills and prepare to showcase them at the interview.
Staying Resilient and Enjoying the journey improves your chances manifold.
Anything between 10-20 weekly hours would be good to aim for, depending on whether you are currently in a full-time/part-time job.
