How can one be Happier at Work?

How can one be happier at work?
(Some perspectives from Human Wisdom)

We spend a third of time at work, so it’s worthwhile being happy doing it

According to a global Gallup poll a only a litte over 15% of world’s 1 billion employees are engaged at work.

A separate UK study revealed that 36% of employees are unhappy at work.

So what can we do to improve this situation?

✅Happiness is not just a mood. it’s a workplace ethic..

✅ Of course employers have a duty to make workplaces healthy and supportive. Nonetheless, culture of an organization is created by the people who work there, not just management.

✅ We are also responsible for our own happiness. Our mind naturally looks on the outside to feel good on the inside.

✅ Questioning that assumption can make us feel empowered to do something about how we feel.

✅ We assume that to be happy we need to do what we like. We often forget that we can choose to like what we do.

✅Instead of expecting our work to make us happy, we can choose to bring our own happiness to our work.

✅ The next thing we can do is to identify the reason for our unhappiness.

✅ Could it be our minds reacting to
our environment? Or our conditioning or our unhappy personal relationships?

✅ This would make us feel in charge of our happiness.

✅ Quite often unhappiness is our own creation. Understanding our mind can make us feel better.

✅ We can take a pause to nurture a a more positive relationship with ourselves.

✅Questions one can ask oneself. Do I always need others to value me? Can I not value what I do!

✅ Am I comparing myself to someone else. Would I be happier if I stopped?

✅ Are there  unmet expectations. Can I let go of some of them?

✅ Can I accept situations and people as they are?

✅Do I look at the glass half-full Or half-empty?

✅ Am I bringing my unhappiness from home to work?

✅ These questions can be empowering  and help us to make the changes we require.

The above certainly does not absolve employers to do what they need to do to make workplaces healthier and more supportive.

I have only shared some insights, a lot of which come from my decades of personal experience in the corporate space.

Would love to hear and learn from your perspectives in the comments.
