Skills is the new Data!
Skills-based hiring, promotion & talent development are a way of life today.
‘Skills-based’ is a shorthand for employers’ ability to spot candidates whose experience has imbued them with most (if not all) the skills to succeed in a job, even though they may not hold the job job title yet
Study by LinkedIn’s Economic Graph team suggests that talent pool could be widened 19x, if employers adopted this approach.
And the trends are showing that they are.
The same study shows that a skills-based approach can broaden the pool of candidates by a factor of 13.5.
Especially in the areas of technology, manufacturing, education, media & healthcare.
Candidates’ job history is matched to the top skills of a job
The downside of this approach is the it may throw up potential candidates without the necessary credentials e.g. doctors & nurses.
Skills matching is insufficient for roles that require specific qualifications & certifications.
Notwithstanding the a above there’s no denying what this trend means for job seekers – whether freshers, experienced, or looking to transition roles.
It’s about Skilling, Skilling, Skilling – to grow or even stay relevant.
There’s no escape from re-skilling, up-skilling – in one’s own area of work and associated areas.
One has to keep running, just to stay in the same position.
Today, more than ever before, it’s critical to keep adding new skills & showcase them in your linkedIn profile & your resume.
This is one area that job seekers tend to ignore or under-emphasise, to their own peril.
Lifelong Skilling can help you to shorten your job search journey and save you a lot of stress & frustration.
Concentrate on building and cataloguing your Transferable Skills in particular.
Ease into your Job Search Journey and Attract the Job you Love!.
