7 strategies to Reboot after  Job Loss

➡️ I started my YouTube channel in June 2020 –  ‘5 Tips to Reboot from Job Loss’.

➡️  3 years later, we’ve come to realise this wasn’t COVID related once-off event.

➡️ Problem still persists. Advance of robotics, AI, predictive language tools ChatGPT, etc. will render  80-100 million jobless in coming years.

 New jobs will certainly be created.  It’s important to be future focussed; also build resilience skills.

7 strategies to navigate a job loss..

1. ✅-   Job loss can be traumatic like loss of loved one.

–  Career, finances, self-confidence, status can take hard hit.

–  It’s good to press ‘Pause’.. Take  time to grieve, adjust; not dwell

–  Remember, Rejection is not often personal.

2. ✅ –  Review finances to gauge how long resources can last.

–  Make written list of major expenses: household, rent/EMIs, utility bills, education. This process can reduce stress.

–   Note down assets: severance pay, savings, any passive income from investments.

–   Revise budget to suit new situation. Trim/eliminate unnecessary outgoings.

3. ✅  Consider taking, projects, volunteer or freelance work  to fill in  gaps & showcase how you spent time.

–  Up Skill through online & distance courses to be future-ready

4. ✅Self-care. Structure daily routine. Schedule ‘me time’ – mindfulness, yoga, exercise, adequate sleep.

–  Finding a job is a full time job, but should not occupy your entire mind space.

5. ✅ –  Rally your supporters:  positively minded family, friends, colleagues, support groups, alumni

–   Reach out to social networks  LinkedIn & others for support.  Consider putting an ‘Open to Work’ banner, if appropriate, on LinkedIn.

–  Seek referrals from ex colleagues/employers  & recommendations on LinkedIn.

–  Ask for informational & exploratory interviews. Former is  data gathering;  latter is  exploring roles in general. Either could lead to  formal interview.

5. ✅ – Update digital presence : LinkedIn profile & pages, FB pages, Insta handles –  incorporate keywords for specific roles.

–  Position yourself as a ‘brand’ not a commodity.

–   Target companies, not roles, especially if Networks are limited. 

–  List 10-12 Target Companies. Start following them. Reach out through In-messages to second level connects (not Hiring Managers).

5. ✅  Re-visit digital assets. Craft
stand-out Resume (to pass Application Tracking System (ATS) & 6 second test for recruiter/hiring manager. 

–  Create impressive cover letter &  60 sec video resume.

6. ✅ Brush up Interview Skills.
Research companies’ financials, credit rating, competition, industry, culture.

–  Prepare stories, answers to FAQs questions to ask.

7.✅ Stay Positive, trusting that there is Job out there, that will fit & fulfill you.
