Uncommon Valentine’s Day story

✴️In Pune restaurants Narayana Murthy sang love songs to Sudha in his earlier ‘carefree’ ‘not so serious years’ he recently disclosed.

✴️ His favorite was Abhi na jao chod kar’

✴️He worked at Tata Administrative Services and she at Telco, as first woman engineer

✴️They would meet at a bus stop have a banana milkshake, orange juice and then share a spring roll.

✴️On movie nights NRM would through pebbles at her hostel window to distract the warden & sneak her back after curfew.

✴️They met through Murthy’s flat mate. Sudha was intrigued at the books he was reading. Actually, they were part from Murthy’s collection.

✴️Sudha expected Murthy to be an actor like Rajesh Khanna.
Turned out, he was petite bespectacled like a college boy.

✴️He offered he some more books and they hit it off.

The couple had to face tough times when Murthy decided to join Infosys

Though qualified, Sudha could not join because Murthy didn’t want it to become a family business, which he now regrets.

It doesn’t bother Sudha now. She is content serving the underprivileged.

Her only regret is that she didn’t learn swimming

Akshata could not play Cinderella in school, because they couldn’t afford to buy a princess costume.

When Sudha decided to take up engineering, people in her hometown Hubli were sceptical about her marriage prospects.

Sudha quips wittily, “They did not know that across Tungbadra there was a Narayana Murthy”
