Uncommon Valentine’s Day story
✴️In Pune restaurants Narayana Murthy sang love songs to Sudha in his earlier ‘carefree’ ‘not so serious years’ he recently disclosed.
✴️ His favorite was Abhi na jao chod kar’
✴️He worked at Tata Administrative Services and she at Telco, as first woman engineer
✴️They would meet at a bus stop have a banana milkshake, orange juice and then share a spring roll.
✴️On movie nights NRM would through pebbles at her hostel window to distract the warden & sneak her back after curfew.
✴️They met through Murthy’s flat mate. Sudha was intrigued at the books he was reading. Actually, they were part from Murthy’s collection.
✴️Sudha expected Murthy to be an actor like Rajesh Khanna.
Turned out, he was petite bespectacled like a college boy.
✴️He offered he some more books and they hit it off.
The couple had to face tough times when Murthy decided to join Infosys
Though qualified, Sudha could not join because Murthy didn’t want it to become a family business, which he now regrets.
It doesn’t bother Sudha now. She is content serving the underprivileged.
Her only regret is that she didn’t learn swimming
Akshata could not play Cinderella in school, because they couldn’t afford to buy a princess costume.
When Sudha decided to take up engineering, people in her hometown Hubli were sceptical about her marriage prospects.
Sudha quips wittily, “They did not know that across Tungbadra there was a Narayana Murthy”
