The Power of Post-Interview Follow up. ‼️
⏺The interview process does not end when you walk out of the room.
⏺What happens after that, is critical to your success
➡️Avoid the temptation of using your phone, the moment the door is closed to give an update to someone.
➡️Often rooms are not sound proof. This can cause you unnecessary embarrassment.
⏺Strategic Follow-up can improve your chances of
landing the job, reaffirming your interest in the position & staying on Hiring Manager’s radar.
➡️A crisp & polite ‘Thank you’ note within 24 hours, sets you apart & leaves a lasting impression.
➡️Before leaving the room make it a habit to ask about next steps – definitely get the contact details of the decision maker/HR rep.
➡️In all likelihood, you would have been given a tentative time frame, a week /fortnight.
➡️This allows you to stay in the sphere of your control by sending a polite reminder at the right time.
➡️Etiquette requires that you leave room for couple of days’ delay.
➡️Mention the position, date of Interview in the subject line (your name of course).
➡️The first follow-up should give all details and showcase your enthusiasm for the particular role.
➡️Mention why the Company appeals to you and how you are a good culture fit.
➡️Don’t sound too pushy or desperate.
➡️It’s just a proactive approach to understand status of your application.
⏺Stay positive & don’t let a delay in response derail you.
➡️Consider positive intent from recruiter’s side and don’t jump to the conclusion that it’s ‘ghosting’
➡️Refrain from being discouraged ot disturbed.
➡️Remember there are many facets to the selection process.
⏺Even if the response is a rejection letter, don’t take it personally. ‘No’ is usually not personal.
➡️Your last note should be very short, expressing gratitude for time spent, even seeking constructive feedback (one can never tell – you may get a valuable tip!)
➡️Sign off in a friendly note, keeping doors open.
➡️It’s not uncommon for recruiters to re-0connect after a gap of time in changed circumstances.
✅Please add other steps that can help job seekers to end on good terms & stay in the line of sight of the recruiter.
