Mission: Zero Unemployment in India
India‼️
♦Today as we celebrate 78th Republic Day, I recall the third anniversary of our Co-authored book
‘Sone ka Chidiya ko Jagao’ – a collection of professional essays on the Unemployment Scene in India.
(underlying theme: Zero Unemployment in India)
♦Three years later, the situation is hardly better.
♦ Citigroup India’s recent report, Employment in India, indicates India may face challenges in creating job opportunities despite its 7% GDP growth rate.
♦The Finance Minister also covered this aspect in her budget speech.
♦India’s labour market presents a complex puzzle.
♦Distribution of skills across the workforce shows imbalances.
♦ Stark concentration in lower skill levels & low percentage representing highly skilled categories.
♦ Added to this, is the huge problem of Under-employment.
⏺According to Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), unemployment rate stood at 9.2 percent in June 2024, a sharp increase from 7 percent in May 2024.
⏺ We need to navigate out of the jobless growth trap soon, if we are to truly join the comity of ‘developed countries’
⏺ Lack of education, lack of necessary skills, lack of employment opportunities & performance issues are only some of the factors leading to unemployment.
On this Independence Day, I re-commit myself to serving the cause of Employment & Career Opportunities for all
✅ What can you do individually or in collaboration to ameliorate the woes of the unemployed & underemployed, especially the youth?
