5 Tips to give Critical Feedback at Work‼️

⏭️ We all need people who give us feedback. That’s how we improve and grow.

➡️ It’s rightly said ‘Feedback is the breakfast of Champions.’

⏭️ 5 tips to give critical feedback in a compassionate way.

➡️  Create a culture where difficult conversations are understood. Feedback is not seen as criticism, but opportunity to improve.

➡️  Begin by pointing to the evidence; not to the Person. For example: ‘The way you spoke to your colleague the other day was rather sharp.’

➡️ Avoid an aggressive tone when conveying the feedback.  Be aware of how challenging it may be for the person to receive & listen.

➡️ Don’t make assumptions about the reasons. Be open & give a chance for the person to respond. Listen to the explanation.

➡️  Compassionate candor. Tell the person candidly what they need to hear to improve. Not doing this can be ruinous.

A good way, is to use the X, Y, Z form.  When you do X, it has the negative impact Y. It might be better if you tried Z instead.

Such feedback comes from a growth mindset, the outlook that the other person can change for the better.

Feedback is not a check box to be ticked off. It’s a journey to be undertaken collaboratively.
